Perspiration (or sweating) is the human body’s way to regulate temperature and to cool itself down. Sweat is mostly made up of salty water, and in normal circumstances provides an evaporative cooling effect. As the moisture evaporates and disappears, the sensation of coolness quickly follows. This process however is not so simple for all people, whilst most of our bodies may experience the occasional sweaty situation such as nervous palms, some adults can sweat up to 14 litres of perspiration in just one day. Excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that can affect up to 3% of the population. Unlike normal perspiration which is produced when the body is hot, hyperhidrosis is characterised by the excessive production of sweat, even when the body is cool.
One of the most effective and proven treatments for Hyperhidrosis is an injection of a protein preparation into the problem area, normally your forehead or underarms. In small doses the protein relax the nerves that supply the eccrine glands, preventing them from producing sweat.

Following your Hyperhidrosis treatments, you’ll benefit from a reduction in sweating in the area treated. This will last for approximately six months.

Q. How will I feel during the hyperhidrosis treatment?
A. Apart from the small pinprick when the injections are given, this is a comfortable and painless procedure. Local anaesthetic can be used if you have particularly sensitive skin.

A. If your aim is to reduce the embarrassment and inconvenience cause by overactive sweat glands, the hyperhidrosis treatment is a safe and convenient option.
Q. How does the hyperhidrosis treatment work?
A. Excessive sweating is treated by administering an injection of the protein botulinum toxin to the overactive sweat glands, which are identified by first applying a powder to the skin. The protein acts by relaxing excess nerve signals to the sweat glands, thus reducing the amount of sweat the body releases.
Q. What happens after hyperhidrosis treatment?
A. You will notice a significant reduction in sweating, and this lasts for a period of up to 3 months, after which many patients return for further treatment.
