Your doctor will choose one of the two methods for transplant: follicular unit extraction (FUE) or follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS). Let’s understand the purpose of both the techniques and their procedures.
FUE is a technique that removes hair follicles individually from one area of the body – the donor site and transplants them to a bald or balding area – the recipient site. There are no cuts involved in this surgery and thus sutures are not required. However, it is a slightly time-consuming method but it is painless.
RESULTS:
The results from a FUE transplant are permanent. The transplanted hair falls out after a few weeks but the root stays in place and grows back strong and healthy.
FUSS, also known as FUT (Follicular Hair Transplantation) is a technique in which the surgeon removes a 6- to 10-inch strip of scalp from the back of your head.
He sets it aside and sews the scalp closed. This area is immediately hidden by the hair around it.
The surgeon’s team divides the strip of removed scalp into 500 to 2,000 tiny grafts, each with an individual hair or just a few hairs. The number and type of graft you get depends on your hair type, quality, color, and the size of the area where you’re getting the transplant.
RESULTS:
The new hair growth can be seen within 2 months and full growth can be appreciated in 8-9 months.
