Understanding the Skin’s Circadian Rhythm !
1. Our skin like the body, has its own circadian rhythm or biological clock. It tends to work with sunrise & sunset.
2. During daylight hours the skin is in “protect mode”, as it instinctively needs to fight off environmental stressors – radiation & air pollution. Thus Vit-C & sunscreen are the ingredients of choice during the daytime.
3. Night time is for repair & rejuvenation, skin is more permeable during these hours. Actives like Retinol, AHA, Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, ashwagandha, bakuchiol can offer good support to the skin during night hours.
4. Stress, lack of sleep, blue light can disrupt this natural rhythm of the skin & lead to premature ageing, acne, pigmentation, dehydration.
5. Start night regimes soon after sunset as the skin gets into resting mode from sunset to dawn !
